The 3AJ-generation XT600Z Ténéré was a thorough redesign of the big Yamaha desert single, with a frame-mounted fairing, twin headlights and a small screen for better touring comfort. Fixes aimed at the overheating of the 1986-87 bikes included a relocated front mudguard, more cooling fin area, a revised oil circuit and a stronger fifth gear, and a rear disc brake was added. It kept the 23-litre tank and electric start of its predecessors.
